WHAT TO EXPECT AT A COMPETITION
Skaters in each category are divided into
‘flights’, with top skaters from each advancing
to the final, where appropriate. Skaters warm up before
performing in the order drawn. A panel of judges evaluates
each performance.
Marks range from “0” for “not skated”
to “6” for “faultless, perfect”
performance. Ranking (ordinal or place value) is more important
than the absolute value of the mark. The winning skater
is the one who receives the majority of first place ordinals.
Once a year, USC volunteers host a competition
for Club Members, evaluated by external judges. The event
enables skaters to practice competitive skills in the comfort
of their Home Club. An awards
ceremony to honour USC Fun Competition skaters is held.
If you skate at Pre-Intermediate level or above, please
ask your coach for more details.
COMPETITIVE SKATE PROGRAM
On the recommendation of a USC coach, a CanSkater or
STARSkater with significant potential may move into Skate
Canada’s Competitive
Skate Program, designed to help competitors advance
from provincial to national championships and beyond.
Skaters must take Competitive Tests at an external venue
to become eligible to compete in Qualifying Events.
