PRESCHOOL
Fun learn-to-skate sessions for 3 to 5 year
olds. Using innovative toys and games, coaches encourage
young skaters to become comfortable on the ice. Basic
skills include Getting up, Stopping, Skating Forwards
& Backwards. Helmets and mittens/gloves are mandatory.
Dress in warm layers, ending with waterproof protection!

CANSKATE
Skate Canada’s learn-to-skate program for 5 to 16
year olds, allows participation according to level of
interest and skill. Instruction focuses on six fundamental
movements:
GO FORWARD GO BACKWARDS
STOP TURN SPIN
JUMP
CanSkate
is organized into three groups (A-C) and six stages of
learning :
- Balance
- Glide Forward
- Glide Backward
- Edges
- Power
- Speed
- 10:1 skater:coach ratio
- Badges at each stage
- Lesson Evaluation & Final Report
- 50 & 60 minute classes include 30-minute group

OPEN CANSKATE
An alternative or addition to regular CanSkate,
covering Stages 1 – 6. Ideal for families with more
than one CanSkater. Groups may consist of more than one
Stage.

CANSYNCHRO
A recreational introduction to the techniques,
disciplines and team fun of Synchronized Skating.
For skaters working on Stage 6 or 7 (Speed & Pre-Preliminary).
CanSynchro requires a minimum of 15 skaters and participants
must enroll in at least one other USC skating session.

POWER SKATING - FOR BOYS & GIRLS
This intensive program teaches correct skating
strides and body movements, developing balance, power,
agility, speed and endurance. Ideal for hockey players,
figure skaters, and anyone wanting to get in shape!
This is not a learn to skate program.

PRE-INTERMEDIATE STARSKATE
For skaters progressing from learn-to-skate
sessions towards more advanced figure skating skills.
Pre-Intermediates benefit from the familiarity of group
lessons, while working on CanSkate 7 and/or Preliminary
Dances and Skills. Must have passed CanSkate Stage 6.

INTERMEDIATE, SENIOR AND ADVANCED STARSKATE
These sessions enable skaters to achieve progressively
challenging figure skating skills in four areas:
- Dance
- Free Skating
- Skating Skills
- Interpretive
Intermediate skaters combine optional group lessons with
private instruction and practice time. Senior/Advanced
skaters mix private lessons with practice time during
sessions
and/or Open Ice time
As part of Skate Canada’s STARSkate
Test Program, skaters can take evaluated tests,
from Preliminary to Gold Level. Entry-level competitive
opportunities, include Club
Competition , the STARSkate Trillium Championship
and Invitational events run by other Skating Clubs.
Qualifications :
- Intermediate : Passed Preliminary Skills and/or Dances
- Senior/Advanced : Must have 2 of: Sr Bronze Skills,
Sr Bronze Dances, Preliminary Free Skate

ADULTSKATE
A fun beginner-to-advanced program for skaters
over 16, led by supportive USC professional coaches. Skaters
are grouped according to ability.

SYNCHRONIZED SKATING
Synchronized skating is a fast-growing sport and Canada is a world-leader.
Unionville Skating Club offers a CanSynchro program as well as excellent Festival Synchronized Skating opportunities in affiliation with Sparkling Ice.
SKILLS
All Skills Sessions are 30 minutes long
and billed quarterly at a cost of $7.50 per Skill
Session, in addition to your regular session fees.

OPEN ICE
Some daytime ice is available for figure skaters. Availability,
cost and cancellations are posted on the USC bulletin
board.
